Ovni vs Taratiel

Ovni vs Taratiel

Her work evokes internal landscapes and raises metaphorical reflections on the environment, expressed through geometric abstraction, provoking emotions and pulsing the viewer’s perception through the intense relationship -compositive, conceptual, technical- that she maintains with space and color. Mental cartographies that take on material life to deal, from the visual misunderstanding, with the ideas of structure, pattern and variation, or with the boundary between the two-dimensional and the three-dimensional.

Process of the intervention

At the request of the neighbors, the mural, situated on the facade of the block of apartments on Calle Lorenzo Abruñedo, evokes the Hidrocantábrico Power Plant in Ciudad Naranco which was demolished at the beginning of this century in spite of neighbours’ opposition. 2017 was the centenary of the construction of that power station which supplied electricity to the city, and the community of owners of nº 24 of Lorenzo Abruñedo thought to commemorate that milestone. A participatory process was developed between the neighbours and the artist guided by the artistic mediators of Raposu Roxu.

Phase 1: Meeting with the neighbours of the block

Presentation of the artist Anna Taratiel confirming that she was to complete the mural on the facade based on her style and trajectory.

Phase 2: Meeting between neighbours and artist

Presentation via skype of the history of the building and the missing power station so that the artist could develop the sketch according to the needs of the local community.

Phase 3: Presentation of the sketch

The artist presented the sketch to the community of neighbours for approval.

Phase 4: Painting the mural

After the realization of the sketch the artist created her piece on the facade.

Agostino Iacurci

Agostino Iacurci

Born in Foggia in 1986, he lives and works in Rome.

In his works of synthetic forms and bright colors, through a fundamental language he is able to negotiate multiple layers of interpretation. This approach situates his stories on the perennial threshold between innocence and artifice, serenity and catastrophe, in a magnetic tension that is the interpretive key of our own existence.

The new Agostino mural in Oviedo

Parees Festival appreciates collaboration with the neighbors of the Pumarín neighborhood, the Sin Nombre Bar, the Fuente Pandu Neighborhood Association and the Agora Association, Foto Cine Club, all protagonists in the participatory process of Agostino Iacurci’s intervention in Pumarín.

It was an incredible process where the artist had the opportunity to get to know the neighbours and hear their stories first-hand, discover their anecdotes and relive the neighbourhood’s past.

From that meeting the final idea for the mural was born: an apple tree (“Pumar” in Asturian) from which the “Pumarín” neighbourhood gets its name. Because as they counted their neighbours, the neighbourhood began to resemble an orchard extending to the outskirts of the city.

Real life holds moments of great beauty and simplicity that I like to interpret in a way close to that original reality, as a way of respecting this beauty, giving great importance to the way in which colors interact and the way brush strokes flow, so that, although in reality it does not have to be this way, in the work everything keeps a sense that allows the viewer to understand my point of view about that reality.

Elisa’s mural is on Goya Street next to Oviedo’s No. 1.

She draws all those things that inhabit the spaces where the worlds touch. Her creations reflect on concepts such as identity, the animal and the idea of the monstrous; the representation of disturbing and bizarre beasts that inhabit new imaginaries.

Her practice revolves around painting, illustration, graphic design and urban intervention. She understands creativity not only as an end but as a tool, and has collaborated with different associations and entities in projects within the social sphere.

She was born in Asturias and trained in Fine Arts at the University of Vigo, spending her final year on a scholarship program in Brazil. Today she has retreated into the rural environment, from where she paints, grows and cultivates the garden.

In my murals I observe the environment to find evocations and memories of each place and then interpret them on the walls, adapting to the format and situating them in an organic and balanced way in conjunction with the context that surrounds my work.

Architecture encourages me to find new ways to change the appearance of the building and exchange visual information so that both the building and my painting maintain the protagonism, seeking a neutral final aesthetic as I want to respect the coexistence with the neighbours and the environment of the building.

The mural of Spogo is on the corner of Ramón Prieto Bances street and Rafael Sarandeces street.
